Welcome to Stop 11 of the Rales, Bales and Bluebonnet Trails historic downtown Ennis walking tour. The railroad was key to the development of Ennis as an agriculture, commercial, and later, an industrial center. During World War II, activity in the Ennis railyard increased dramatically as many trains transited Ennis daily. Proudly and sadly, America sent her sons and daughters to war from railroad stations like the Ennis station. Southern Pacific employees who gave their lives in service to their country during World War II are memorialized on a monument here at Pierce Park, a landscaped area along the railroad tracks in historic downtown Ennis. Take a moment and read through the historical markers found at this park sharing and honoring the past.

If you would like to learn more about Ennis veterans, visit Veterans Memeorial Park (2301 Ennis Parkway) for another stunning tribute to local heros.
